The Swaddler
Exhibition
"The Swaddler preserves the moment between physical and metaphysical, birth and death and the hyper-messaging of venerability at each phase.
[For this piece], the importance of textiles is about enclosure and protection; the piece visually asserts the disarming of the human and invokes human reliance of surroundings be they physically structured or ideological. Encapsulations tend to be preparations for future stages, positive interventions where the inevitable cycle from womb to tomb and around again has been highlighted in various sarcophagi and temples built to house death as it journeys into life, itself a confusion of purpose. This depiction of womb to tomb is without inscription, leading the audience to venture where in the phase the swaddled is."
